I've seen a counterfeit $10, the old one with no security strip. Someone tried to cash it in a bank and the teller was suspicious of it having no watermark and brought it to the manager who just brought out some RCM stuff from the back for me. I asked to see it and when I turned it I saw the serials were off, they look rather "round"-ish and the spacing was too narrow (I didn't take any photos of it - I should've asked permission to ). Just wondering if serial numbers are actually hard to copy with the right font, or is just that no one pays attention to them so that the counterfeiters can make it look really bad and no one notices?

My first instinct was to rub at the portrait's cheek and I found it smooth. The first time I see an old Journey note, and not a real one!

The thing I find rather disturbing is that the note couldn't have been more than a mid-VF, which means it's circulated for quite some time and no one noticed. I thought Canadians know more about their cash! I shouldn't let my guard down yet it seems...

can't say much for the serial number.. I have only handled 1 $5 counterfeit... was pretty easy to tell the colour was slightly off and the (5) was way off...

With respect to the condition.. I have heard that they tried to make the counterfeits have a bit of wear in them so that they look more "legitemate"

umm, interesting. I would think it is hard to distinguish a fake or counterfeit serial number note. good job!

I would assume that the letters would look like a box like character, such as one you would see on an old digital clock.

The manager did say the colour was off, but I'm unfamiliar with any Journey note, so I can't comment on colour. I've only seen the polymer ones and very rarely the Journey note with metallic strip but never the ones without the strip. The one I saw looked pretty well-done to me with no major design strangeness but that might be just because I am unfamiliar with what they actually look like. But I can say that the serial was off since the polymer and Journey notes share the same font and spacing, and I do check bills that come my way for fancy serials.

I have a 1979 Indonesian note with a strong possibility to be a contemporary counterfeit, in poor condition. The funny thing is, it's completely lacking any serial number. Also, it's less dark and dirty and smelly than what you expect of a note in that condition, which brings up the suspicion of washing instead to create a forged error.

VICK, the font of the serial was round-ish while on real notes they're square-ish (at least to me). They look similar, but something about the font definitely looked off.
