Hello all,

I was flipping through ebay looking for store card tokens & saw a 1953 red seal $2 and shot (what I considered) to he a lowball bid...and won. I have no idea if it's anything special or not, but it looked neat. I'm admittedly lacking in knowledge of paper currency. Can anyone offer any information on this note? I'm a total banknote newb so please feel free to elaborate in your responses.

Thanks,
Charlie

This is about the going price for these in that condition, but I personally wouldn't pay much than what it went for.

I should've researched the note before placing the bid, but I had a $3 PayPal credit from an app I run in the background of my phone...so after shipping it was just $6. Not to mention I figured I'd be getting at least $2 of it back! Total investment=$4.

Can anyone help me with "series identification"? Is that just the letter preceding the serial number?

Looks like a nice crisp note.

I've had similar 'lowball' wins happen a few times for nothing special, but then other times you can get real lucky

Your note is a 1953A. It signifies the change in the Treasurer or Secretary of The Treasury. Series 1953 $2 red seals had 1953, 1953A, 1953B, and 1953C. Your 1953A had 18,000,000 printed. Still a sharp looking note for the price.

I think you did OK myself. This looks like a nice crisp note. I have seen VF notes sell for more than what you paid.

Thanks for the replies. It's shipping from a bordering state, hopefully I won't be waiting to long before I get the chance to oogle it in person. :)
