How long does it take a large clad dollar to wear down from XF to poor?

I found a Ike dollar at my bank with a a date and mint mark I already had that also had a beginning of PVC damage on it.. I decided to keep it in my pocket to use in coin tosses and to fiddle with when I need a fidget item. I will likely hold it in my palm a lot and flip it in my fingers. I used to use whatever clad quarters I had in my pocket but I thought this would be a fun experiment. It will also be in my front pocket where I keep my keys and other change. Plan on carrying in my pocket as many years as it takes, I just hope I won't lose it.

I plan on taking a picture of it once a month to see the slow progress.

Did I mention I get into a lot of sand and salt at work, and have to have something in my hands at all times out of nervous habits.

In one week I wore off all the green PVC damage. It now looks slightly better than when I started. Right now it lives in my pocket with a 1971 half dollar and a slightly bent Vermont State Quarter which jams up bank coin counters. The bank refuses to accept coins that won't go through the machine. So I'm stuck with cruddy rotten zincolns

You've got me thinking....I have some coins that are damaged and would probably benefit from some 'honest' wear. One has a gouge and I have some with PVC damage, too. I'll have to dig them out and start carrying them around.

There are a lot of variables so it can take as little as a few weeks or as long as a couple lifetimes. The more it slides and collides with metal the faster it wears. Keep it in a pocket with change or your keys and move around a lot and it will wear away faster. Handling won't have much effect.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
