That's about $100 too high in my opinion.
If you're going to spend $150ish at least get a MS64 and look for a prooflike coin if you want an early S-mint. If you want awesome toning, watch for auctions and be patient.

Thanks for the advice, I guess I will not be purchasing this coin, it's a shame, it's a real beauty!

Although with a price that high, he also gives you the option of making an offer. He most likely won't take it but if I really wanted this coin, I'd make an offer for $70. That may be a little bit over the FMV price, but when a coin speaks to me, I have to buy it. It's like an addiction...

Await another opinion - these aren't uncommon, and there are others on the market right now - but if I'm looking for a toner I'm probably snapping that one up at the price. Are you checking the innumerable online dealer outlets? You're likely to beat typical ebay prices, especially for Morgans, because they understand how common Mint State Morgans are in the market. When they list on ebay, they jump the price up a bit.

SsuperDave, I buy all of my coins in person, but my dealer has a very low selection of Morgans, can you recommend some places to buy online?

IMHO, the maximum I would go on it is $80, mainly because of the toning. Otherwise it is a $60 coin. If I were you I would look for a nice toned MS-64 or 65. 1880-S is extremely common in mint state. I would recommend that you look into GSA Carson City Morgan dollars. For a few bucks more than the price of this coin, you can get a nice 1883 or 1884-CC. If you want me to recommend a dealer to you, email me.

We've a ton of previous discussions/recommendations of online dealers but I'm posting from my smartphone so it would be difficult for me to dig up more than a couple links. There are a large number of reputable online dealers offering Morgans; the market has very much embraced the Internet, especially in the last 5 years.

The one you posted an hour ago does nothing for me. That's about $20 too pricey.

Arael, what's the max you're willing to spend? You posted a $160 coin and then a $70 coin. If you give us an idea of a budget and what you're looking for, I'm sure you'll get more input as well as more suggestions.

My budget is around $50-150. I'm looking for one with nice eye appeal and ideally some toning, I really know nothing of Morgans so sorry for all of this hassle.

Why not look at the graded ones up for auction on ebay? That will give you a much better idea of what they are really worth.
