I was wondering what way do you sellers ship your coin/clamshell etc, I was looking at using bubble mailers but seeing that the Mint sends their coin/clamshells in a box with those plastic inflated thingys I am not sure if the bubble mailers are good enough to use, but if the cost to ship using the bubble mailers is a lot cheaper then the shipping them in the mint type box's maybe they are good enough.

Also what service do you use to ship to the USA from Canada , I see Canada post has a tracking service but its like $20 or more , just trying to figure out the best way to ship with the least cost.

Thanks.

Bubble mailers are fine. If the coin is not too valuable, I even sometimes just fold the coin in a 2x2 flips and fold cardboard around it and put it in a regular paper envelope. It's not like a coin is going to shatter, you just need to protect it from dings. In the case of plastic slabs, I'd probably wrap it in plastic to prevent any scuffs from sliding around, but other than that a layer of bubble wrap in the mailer is more than enough.

If you live near the US, cross the border, it is cheaper to ship it back to canada. I havn't sold many clam shells, but if I do, it has always been a high shipping price (hurts sales) because packed in a box, or I list coins without box. I'll be curious if bubble mailer works well, I was always afraid of pressure damage to box.

I ship within Canada by regular parcel if it's going with the clamshell cost $10-$17 depends on region. When I ship to the states I use small box. I use small package air for $9-$10. I have the clerk stamp the back of my copy of customs form CN22, as proof of acceptance. There's a dedicated square on the CN 22 for it. If it's really expensive I'll insure with shipsurance, I've never made a claim yet. Since 2012 I've been buying and selling to US, never had a package get lost! Sometimes a long delay, but that's been the worst. I send a lot by lettermail too, still need to do the CN22. I much prefer shipping just the coin do to the postal rates.

My past experience as a shipper (12 years) here was using a bubble mailer with clam shell cases is a definite no no. The cases will usually arrive damaged or bent at the hinges. We always use a box to protect clam shell cases. It's more expensive but it saves us the time and cost of replacements. I'm sure customers prefer it also as they have will have no worries of the condition of products.

We ship coins by lettermail with cardboard and a bit of bubblewrap or foam if necessary. Clamshells exceed the 2cm thickness max for lettermail so have to go parcel post. Usually Expedited Parcel is cheaper than regular parcel post if you're going through Paypal and get the discounts and has the added bonus of tracking and insurance. Since it's going parcel anyway it always goes in a box. We use Tracked Packet USA through Canada Post or Expedited Parcel if we need higher insurance on it. There is also a Tracked Packet International for certain countries (click the link on this page to get the list http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/bus...5?LOCALE=en) and the rest of the world has to use Expresspost International.

Yeah, come to think of it, I received a 2007 silver proof set from the states. The seller sent it in a bubble mailer and the outer box was mashed. I needed to reglue all the seems. Plus it had many little creases. The set was just placed in bubble mailer with the packing slip. I had total forgotten about it, until GAtewest mentioned it. About 90%of my clamshells arrive in boxes. A few from the shopping channel/ Canada post arrive in those cardboard mailers. So far no damage with cardboard mailers.

There's no cheap way of sending a clamshell from Canada. I'd rather send the coin with it's COA and sleeve or box flatten, than ship those clamshell's!! It's a shame Canada post hasn't come out with cheaper rates for items 500 gr or under, especially since they want the parcel business. I'm just dreading the coming increases in January. They seem never to miss a year lately!!

Ok thanks guys , lots of good info there, I am starting to think I should be doing just slabbed coins instead of the having to try and ship the mints lovely clam shells lol. But I guess that would bring up other problems of having to get my coins graded etc.

Apparently there's a new grading company in Montreal that uses that hard slabs. I was talking to an ebay seller that uses them. He was saying coins he's cross graded with ICCS come out with the same grade. He was were enthusiastic about the new company. I believe he said they charged $6-$8. I'd have to look at original email to be certain. I know I asked several questions, as I've read so much regarding basement slabbers. I may give them a try in the new yr. The things I like about hard stabbing are coins don't change color and they get authentic .

Yes anything that's not paper has to have a CN22 attached. It's a customs declaration form, letting the US customs people know what's coming into there country. It's used for exporting to all countries. I know I don't consider myself an exporter, but basically that's what's happening.

It's easy to fill out. Basically you put the Buyers address and the value of the item in CAD. For the description I use numismatic collectable and how many. It's generic enough description it shouldn't trigger any interest. I never put gift as it's illegal to do so. Then I sign and date the form. It doesn't take long. After you've done a few, you'll get the hang of it and be able to speed through. The post office gives them for free. I usually get 30 at a time. This way they're always handy. Most ebay sellers will do theirs online through Paypal.

I never have, I'm too lazy to hook up my printer. The thing is for the past two years I do all my Internet over my iPhone including ebay. We have two computers, the one that's active is my sons gaming computer. He's got a 32" TV as a monitor and I get very ill after fifteen minutes. Thanks to a forum member, it's most Likely because I'm 4-6 inches away from the monitor. I don't have a wireless keyboard so I could sit further away. My iPhone meets my needs perfectly. I do go through charge cords 1 every 3 months.
On the back of the CN22 there's a square for the postal clerk to stamp received. I just found this out this summer, when looking over my copy. It also is self adhesive. I really don't understand people who think, it's a bother to fill them out.

I have gone out to the dollar store and picked up the colored rectangular foam pieces you can get 30 sheets of 1.99 I only use this if coin is in a 2x2 holder. I tape the coin to one of the pieces of foam so it does move around and then tape the ends of the foam together. My wife's works for Fed-X and we get 80% off anything we ship, so 90% of the time it goes Fed-X if I'm buying a coin and it's worth a lot. I ask the seller to ship Fed-X on my account, the seller get a tracking number and I get the coin within 24 hrs. Never ship a claim box if I had to I would used a box bubble wrap to wrap it and stuff enough tissue paper in the box so it does not move around to easily.

Here's a link to the CCCS rates web page referred to by @pocketchange50 above http://www.canadiancoincertificatio...hp?c=17&lg=1 They've been around long enough I wouldn't necessarily call them 'new' though :-)
