Seems like RCM is trying to play off of that rare wedding set a while back... When it is intentionally done it seems more like a commemorative token to me though.

I do not have this nor do I intend to buy one but something can be said about it. For a "specimen" set the mintage is somewhat low and you get a specimen 50 cent piece which are hard to find elsewhere.

Also, if you collect loonies, this is the only set that contains the "normal" specimen loonie unless you pick one up from someone who has broken up the set for resale.

Well if you bought all 17500 of them thats appox $874,000 Plus taxes. Just think you could corner the market in Bunny toonies , plus the other specimen coins. A flippers dream!

Specimen coins are great, and the "baby animal" Toonie very nice. But the set as the unit degraded since they took out the Penny, which in specimen finish looked extremely nice.
Not collecting these sets, but in the 2012 picked two - with the Duck Family (as Anniversary for Loonie set) and the "Wolf cubs" - the last set with Penny and last set with "old version" of Toonie.

Silveroid what's your opinion of the 2012 wolf set? I really enjoy the 2012 loon set and my silver proof 2012 set. I'm always watching to see if I can get another silver 2012 proof set, under issue price, as I love the gilded dollar and penny. It's an extraordinary set! The artistry on the dollar is exceptional and the theme is great. The rose gold penny is exquisite. There's so many top coins in the set. It's what launched me collecting proof sets. I've got everyone from 1994. Slowly I'm adding the others as I find good deals. I've also got the 1973/1974 proof sets. I've taken the 1973 coins out of the red backing, so coins don't get damaged. It's a very beautiful set too. I've heard the red backing of the Pre 1974 sets can destroy the coins, making them worth spending.

Quote: Silveroid what's your opinion of the 2012 wolf set? Looks like, that we, Canadians, tend to collect coins from many areas. So the same I, but being unable to buy (and store and enjoy) all, in some areas I buy the "milestones". As per Toonie design, the "Wolf cubs" set not an extraordinary. Nice, but nothing more. But this is last annual (or specimen annual) set that contains all 7 coins. Starting from 2013 the sets does not have the Penny. It dismiss in my opinion - why not to keep it together with 50cent piece? (my childhood was in the country that had in circulation all the denominations together: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50 (!!) so in Canada, the "Farewell to Penny" is a kind of sentimental loss for me.

That is exactly what I did. I usually buy one of these animal sets every year, sell the animal toonie to a friend, keep the loon and give away the rest to kids...
