I found this penny with missing dots and fading letters on the obverse and fading letters on the reverse.

I want to say Grease Filled Die but the details that seem to be missing have the same place front and back.

1943,1944, and 1945 are good years for this error. They almost always have the missing letters on both sides of the coin. Maybe a weak strike?

yes when the die gets used so many times! it is from wear and tear I believe. think about how money was tight during the war, so they used them till they were unusable. "shop till you drop"

Yes and very common for these years.
