Looking through my 1990's today I noticed this one obvious defect that I can't place. Anyone know what caused it weather it be PMD or not? Thanks.

The entire outer edge has a gouge in it that looks like it was always there.

PMD. Coin Rolling Machine Damage.

I haven't seen a lot of nickels with the round scratch, most of what I see have the straight line scratch. Both are from coin Rolling Machine Damage.

Thanks a lot SlurExe97 I've seen it on other denominations but it was not so complete. It didn't look natural. Anyways I'm surprised the damage the machine can do.

Overused die can produce that effect also.
In fact it's quite common on some dates in US coinage.

I've never seen an overused die will cause a scratch (which is incuse to the coin). It will cause filling.

yes american ways are different than Canadian... yes I believe that this is just a rolling machine or a vending machine.

SO yes a PMD! is it a bare belly? I can't tell from the pictures.

This coin had nothing special other than the gouge. Here it is at 35x under light.

Interesting. Just got a quarter with the same line pattern close to beads. Usually I see the circle much closer to the center.
