I'm not sure what the weight variance are on blanks. Note: They all came from the Ottawa RCM in the 70s so I put a '74 coin next to them as I knew my father worked there that year. Any help/advice on these would be great! Tks!

1. Penny(Type 1): 1974 penny should weight 3.24g so I'm assuming they're both Canadian pennies as the variance is not that great but hoping for some help as I'm not sure how big of a difference there should be..?

2. Nickel (Type 1): Same as above(4.54g)

3. Dime (Type 1): same as above(2.07g)

4. Quarters (Type 1): Same as above (5.07g)

5. Clipped (Type 2): I've put it against the quarter blank and it weighs 4.48g, seems to fit the size, however, it's non-magnetic like the quarter blank is.

6. Dollar (Type 1): same as above (15.52g)

7. I suspect the largest one (larger than the dollar) and weighs 30.30g (non-magnetic) may be silver but I'm not sure how tell for sure.

Nice set of blank planchets, Josephine! Those 5c and 25c ones are hard to find. And to CCF!

Those are awesome. I would really like to have a blank set of coins. So far I have the US cent, dime and quarter and only Canadian blank cents.

Tks for the help! I tried the paper tissue with a new silver vs. known old discolored silver ..and it didn't work ..the darker one still showed up as though it was clad or rather dark ..so I figured because the blank is also discolored, it won't work..

I can help you with those, and at least tell you the compositions of the metals. I am in the Ottawa area, and can test them on the XRF in my lab at work. However, that cannot happen right away for two reasons:

1. The XRF is getting a hardware and software upgrade, and will be offline for 4-6 weeks

2. You need 50 posts, before you are able to send me a personal message - but actively participate in the discussions here on CCF, and before you know it, you'll have 50 posts.
