here is the other side the opaque look is wrong lighting and is not the note. If you guys want to see a more beautiful note, it will have to be tomorrow, but only if there is interest.

Ohh there is interest!!
Please keep them coming....
As for grade... I think it may depend on what kind of day the grader is having.... this one is right on the cusp in my opinion... (at least by photo alone)
If in hand there remains a bit of crispness... I would go VF all day!!
However I can't see how the fibers have been affected by the folds in this photo that well... and there seems to be a lot of folds and perhaps some foxing...
So I am in the camp of ... if the grader was having a bad day.... F18.... Any normal day... VF20 - 25
The "look" is a bit different from the front to back... had this note been wet pressed ? Do you know 47P7?
Ohh and please keep these pics of your newfie notes comming... my wife complains about the drool stains on the couch (or at least she's a bit uneasy that I'm staring at my computer and drooling so much...I just don't have the heart to tell her I'm only looking at numi related items..) I on the other hand am swept away into a fantastic day dream of seeing these in commerce and having the chance to actually hold one...
edit: I've just spent the last 5 minutes staring at both the front and back pictures and it would all come down to how this note felt in hand... if there was any crispness to it.. I would go VF.. but if there wasn't any crispness it would make top grade F..

AG, tell your wife she should count herself lucky! after all, you could be switching on your computer to check out the offerings on POF (plenty of fish-a dating or whatever else site)or similar...

Kind of nice # serial number# for a forty center! Certainly a solid fine 15 PPQ plus from what I see.

Dev: This kind of notes were basically used in gov't contracts to pay for services and such. As a result most were cashed in and then destroyed...

A 1912-13 NFLD Government $1.00 cash note. Except for minor creases, bill looks good. I will guess at VF20 without seeing other side.

Thank you all, it was fun the notes reside in a safe at the moment. Am wondering about the 80 cent note... what should I do with the notes? one part of my brain says sell it, the other says keep it. Both parts say: you are not really in to Notes... tough decision to make next year. it was a considerable investment. Here is the other side of the 1$

Hey if you're not really "into" notes... then I say find someone who will appreciate them and take that money and put it into something you would be happy with.
I wish I could even give you a reasonable offer.. but when it comes to notes like this.. not only am I not in the same ball park... or in a different league... it's a completely different sport!
