Thinking this is a NERO RIC 53? Correct? Also, anyone have any thoughts on authenticity?

Agree with RIC#53. Btw, Sear only has the reverse with other obverse, namely 1943 = RIC#69. Personally I do not see any reason to doubt it's authenticity, the grainy marks within CVSTOR seem to come from cleaning. But definitely wait for the comments of those more knowledgeable on Roman denari.

Nice coin, I don't see anything wrong with it. I agree that it is RIC I 53, BMC 74. Wish there was a bit more to the obverse legend, but it should read NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS. I don't have a Nero denarius, wouldn't mind finding one like this.

The coin may well be genuine. I can't honestly tell from the photo alone. But the 'proboscis' seems somewhat different to me. It makes him appear more handsome than the later coins generally do. It lacks that 'odious' appearance. Almost makes him look like Marc Antony !

I would add that the ribbons behind the head also seem somewhat curious. Like two serpents !

I don't really see anything here that screams fraud. This is actually a quite pleasant example of a coin often found in grody condition. The coin has been cleaned but IMHO it doesn't detract much from the value or the appeal of the piece. I am not sure what you paid, but if the price was right Kudos to you, only 11 more to go!

First impressions count, and the first impression this coin makes on me is good. I see nothing unusual here, besides a slightly different facial expression than usual for Nero.

That one looks good to me, much better than my recently acquired one. The reverse always throws me off on this one, so much extra room for design

I'm just not liking this coin. His ribbon in the back is very unique, hard to find on others like it. Seller wants $300 for it, which is better than anything others offer, but he attributed it as a RIC 69 and I am always suspicious when seller does not know their product. I know mistakes are made, but the look feels off. However weight is within parameters of acceptable, and it does not look like anything on the fake coins report so I am caught in the middle here. Advice?

Would not worry about the (minor) misattribution, he might have just picked it up from Sear. But personally would rather wait and not pay $300 for that coin.
