Poll Question
I have had the same avatar since day one and I feel that its time for a change. The avatar coin is among my favorite and one of the best deals I have ever gotten in my numismatic career. I offer this poll...help Ancientnoob pick his new CCF avatar, I have narrowed it down to 7 choices..choose wisely. Thanks all... Selection I: Obverse of...Hephthalite Drachm c. 700AD Selction II: Reverse of...Fouree Sergius Silus Denarius c. 115 BC Selection III: Obverse of....Buddha 5 Shanas c. 500 BC Selection IV: Obverse of First Meris Tetradrachm c.167 BC. Selection V: Reverse of Side tetradrachm c. 200 BC Selection VI: Obverse of Philip I Arab Secular games s. 248AD Selection VII: States of Pyu Final Coinage c. 832 AD Obverse I have also allowed a eighth option for those who would rather see another coin, I am taking suggestions... Thanks to all my coin bros and sistas. Do be shy and cast your vote... In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, "The die has been cast."

I choose First Meris on aesthetics and the opinion that it will show well in a reduced size. (Your original avatar is a hard act to follow.)

Agreed, Matt the Athens tet is hard to top. I should have left the option to keep the original...maybe I still can!

The 5 Shanas look nice but wouldn't make a good avatar imo. My vote went for the States of Pyu - indicates your diverse collection habits.

A.N. - I chose Republic Denarius Reverse because 'yes' there are prettier coins/pictures on offer but one stops looking at the Avatar after seeing it for the first few times and the simplicity of this one remains long after the novelty has worn off.
Also, who doesn't want to be likened to a 'warrior' on a rampant horse?

@ Medieval - Personally I was leaning towards the Pyu, its a large coin one doesn't see everyday. It has that," What the Hades is that Srivasta?"
@TC - There is something to be said about a Roman holding a Gallic Head. It does kind of have that lasting shock appeal. A testament to crude nature in the guise of fine art.

Any of these would be a good choice, of course. However, I voted for the Hephthalite drachm (but think the Pyu coin would be great too). To quote a very insightful collector who posted this not too long ago, "If you are at least mildly interested in coins of the eastern empires, then you realize that time did not stop and every empire did not fall with western Romans." Should sound familiar, Noob. With that in mind, I think taking the less conventional approach (i.e. going Non-Western with the avatar) would be a nice visual celebration of these cultures.

Eighth option: one of my own coins as your avatar Really though, I'd suggest choosing a coin that is special to you. Perhaps your first coin or a favorite coin from your collecting focus. My avatar is my Majorian coin because I collect Roman coins from this era and he is one of my favorite Roman emperors of all time. But if I had to choose I'd suggest going with #1. To me its the nicest of the eastern coins you posted and it fits with your being a primarily eastern collector. Which is the Anoob I know.

@ BobL - I always admired your colorized Mithradates II. It is Mithradates II right? As far as the quote, sounds like genius, I want to subscribe to that guys pamphlet. Thanks for the kind words and I am glad to have met you in the east. @ VK - My first coin...After 15 years, I still own it...wanna see...? Seems the First Meris dominates once again. Lets see if there is enough "Eastern" support to dethrone it.

Man BobL that is breath taking. Wish I could do that with a couple of my coins. Kidarite huns, the Hephthalate piece I posted and a handfull of others.
Some one fruit this man, I'm on my phone.

I voted for the hephthalite. it's an eastern coin, which I associate with your area of expertise, but it's pretty recognizable to an ancient collector (at least by type..fire sassanian fire alter mod).
but heck, they're all nice...can't go wrong.
