Thought about it and decided that this would be the best category for this thread, as many rumours do deal with varieties.
It may seem harmless to some but as time passes, rumours do take on a life of their own.
Example but not limited to; Ever read something in Charlton or Haxby that just didn't make sense?

and I heard, that the mint purposely makes or made most known errors and or varieties in the post 67 coinage so it stirs up interest within the collecting community. there may be some truth to it.
And YES, there are many aspects, words, expressions, names, titles and processes that do not make sense to or are understood by many "layman" or not so sophisticated collectors. It is fine and good to hear: buy the books... But understanding them is something else for many of us.

Wrong forum for this I think. Should be in the "Area 51" or "Coast to Coast " discussion chat rooms. I think Dean just got misdirected early this morning. I was going to respond earlier this morning (about 330 AM PST) but I was too busy rereading a great story on the " 1937 Edward VIII Canadian Silver Dollar Pattern "

One answer that I received years ago for a question that I had, just didn't make sense.
I asked why there are coins that show more wear on one side than the other.
The answer I received was that the coin most likely sat in a drawer for a long period of time and as the drawer was opened and closed, it wore down the one side.
I learned that the explanation was only a hobby-rumour.

Perhaps if people would stay on topic, you would not get the feeling you now have Pacificoin.

From the Canadian Mints perspective, if you don't feed the system, the systems not going to feed the mint. Which can and for sure it does create valid errors and varieties, inside and back door jobs, as well as in circulation and all the optional purchases available off the shelf. It's business and the bottom line is all that counts!
Having said that, when word first got out about people collecting coins and looking for errors, this info made its way back to the then operating mints(also today's current)and the info was then used to help create the following that we all see here today. Definitely there are errors that truly are just that, however not in speculation is it fitting to toss the idea that no they would never do that(helped coin erros)on purpose. We all know that each and every business regardless of the manufactured goods always strives to increase it's numbers. In the case of collecting coins it's a win win situation both ways, the mints being smart and the collectors needing to be info junkies for their smarts! JMO.

Yes SPP-Ottawa the Mint reports could be a possible fit for some.
Helps if you share specifics about what didn't make sense to you.

I've heard this about the US mint, as well. I have no idea how much truth there is to either, but it would seem to be a bit more trouble than it was worth in the long run. I learned that the explanation was only a hobby-rumour. Are you talking about cabinet friction? Quote: 47P7; Many say to 'buy the book', but really they are just being robotic. It's a short way of saying that you should have knowledge of the coins you purchase before you purchase them; whether that knowledge comes from a book or from some other means is really irrelevant. You need to know what you're buying, as with anything. While it may sound "robotic" to you, it's something newbies tend to forget and need reminded of, and so it is oft repeated.
