If you are able to find 90% junk silver, how much is your LCS selling it for? My coin store is currently selling 90% junk @ 11-12 x face.

Wow, that's very good price.
My LCS asks for 14x face now.

11x and 12x face is actually the melt value for the dimes, quarters and halves at this time.

I paid $50 for the lot below. He had more quarters I am probably going to go back and get. He got all the cash I had on me today.

Now I see why the multiple is only 11-12. Although my LCS asked for 14x, I can pick Standing Liberty quarters (with date) and walking liberty halfs (AU).

My LCS doesn't usually let me cherry pick through his inventory. I guess that wouldn't be fair to the next guy. So, it's the same price no matter if it's a roosevelt or a Barber dime. He does charge an extra 20-25 cents for half dollars though. Since it is face value, I don't see how quality or condition factors in, unless they were really slicks, which those posted above aren't.

I don't see the attraction of junk silver, why not but nice new shiny 1/10 ,1/4 ,1/2 1oz .999 silver bullion? Instead of paying top dollar for old dirty 90 percent stuff.

I generally only buy 40% or 90% if it's something I need for a set I'm working on. Otherwise I prefer to stick with .999 for bullion as much as possible. There are of course exceptions.

i acquire both 90% and ASEs. I like 90% because it's typically not counterfeited, which gives me confidence in buying (and selling one day). I also like the history of older coins, and the fact that even if it loses 90% of it's value, it still contains US currency. I know the ASEs are supposed to be $1, but I am not sure if I could take it to the bank if silver drops to 50 cents an ounce and get $1 for it. Even if I could, paying $20 for $1 face is not as good as paying 14x face for halves.
However, as stated, I stack them both and enjoy it ALL!

I will take the 90% any day over ASEs. I enjoy the history and the character of the older coins. Save the dirty 90% for me!

My dealers all let me cherry pick. Wouldn't buy it if I didn't. I just get it to fill albums of circulated coinage.

I think like you LeoS.
LCS or online, runs around 13X
I like shiny also, but I've dug hundreds of late 19th and early 20th century 90% including dozens of Barbers, SLQ's, Walkers, Franklins, mercs, etc, plus roll hunted thousands of silvers so I grew slightly weary of 90%.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

I look at it like this. A roll of 90% silver dimes, quarters or halves can fetch a pretty penny at times so that's why I stack them. I agree with some that collecting 40%er's are not worth stacking. If I come across some CRH'ing I sell them and buy 90% silver coins.
