Bought a bag of pennies off a friend a couple a days ago and this beaut was in there. There is also a slight strike through(poss grease)in the hair and crown near the top. Very lightly circulated. Any thoughts to percentage grade and demand. Cheers and ty for helping.

Obverse center is at 12 and the reverse center is at 7.

Sorry I missed adding, it looks to be around a 150 degree rotation.

My question is how did you notice it? The only time I've identified a die rotation was after I put it in a 2x2. What made you look at circulated 1999 penny close enough to see it?

A few months ago I received a die rotation 'tool' from a local club member. It's made of clear acrylic and has a hole for each denomination so you can press the coin in, flip it over and read the degree of rotation. I've been meaning to post a pic of it since I got it, it's a great little device.

John, a 180 sure would have been nice, I'm pretty happy with this one for sure.

SPP, would it be worth while to get this one slabbed, now value I've not a clue.

Fed, when I go through coins I 10x them and always turn it the same way knowing how the opposite side should be, this one didn't do that. I spend about 4 seconds a coin looking for the error or variety. The time goes by fast lol.

I love it. We had a similar thread here about whether to slab a 180 degree rotated 1997 a few weeks back. I wouldn't spend the money on a slab. This one speaks for itself. ICCS will just call it a rotated dies cent in any case.

Scg, I found that on google last night and was a good read. If I was to put this on the market what should I expect to get out of it, my thoughts are high AU to low MS. I want to use this to purchase more coins and feed the coin addiction lol. Cheers.

This current ebay listing may give you an idea of value. Your rotation is larger but your grade is much lower. There are other 79s out there with large rotations so I would say yours has more scarcity value. I would guess $125 or so.

Hey M_d, I don't mean to hijack your thread but let me know what you think of these? SPP and Smallcentguy, you too. Unfortunate the dime slot is a little too big to secure the coin but you get the idea. Great tool for a quick reference, 5 degree increments.

Edit: these coins are for demonstration only, they are not rotated.

Scg, thanks for the link and your thoughts on value, I'll probably put this one on the market once I am grade sure of it.

fed, that's a cool quick reference tool, I'm afraid if I had one I'd get frustrated with it, the dime slot and over time the openings will wear to the same result. I use a plastic protractor simple and fast.
