Can anyone tell me if this is a penny or half penny? It's about the size of a fifty cent piece. Also what grad would you give it? Thanks.

1 Farthing = 4.6g
1/2 Pence = 9.46g
1 pence = 18.8g
It should match 1 of these.

Unfortunately, most folks in Britain won't know how big a Canadian 50 cent piece is. Nor, if they did know, would they know whether you mean a 50 cent piece from 2014, or from 1855.

As implied by tenbobbit's answer, the farthing, halfpenny and penny of this period all have the same design, only differentiated by size and weight. The penny should be 34mm, the halfpenny 28mm. Wikipedia says the current Canadian 50 cent coins are 29mm, slightly bigger than the halfpenny in size, so I would assume you have a halfpenny.

Looks like a 1/2 Penny. The diameter should be 28mm. If the diameter is 34mm is a Penny.
