It's underweight at 1.21 grams. There is kind of a ghostly image of the obverse on the reverse side. The rim is raised slightly on the outside compared to the thickness of it in the middle. The diameter and obverse are normal. Although the rim does appear to flare outward a bit, so it looks a touch wider than normal in the obverse pic.

I can't explain what did/could have happened to this piece before it left the mint to make it look like this. So I am leaning towards PMD.

Thoughts?

I'm not an error person, but I'll take a guess: thin planchet struck under another planchet, perhaps?

I don't think PMD is the cause, when the rim was struck the reverse looks like the reverse die was not in the proper down position in order for the rim to be fully struck, hence the wire effect edge of the rim. There is no evidence of a mechanical or liquid removal or displacement of the open field metal. The obverse shows no signs of any type of tampering post mint. IMO. What error this is I have no idea that's where the experts come in lol.

Thin planchet, struck through another planchet... you are seeing a ghost of the Queen in mirror image, basically reflecting the flow of metal from the anvil die on the other side of the coin. The correct term for this is a uniface strike, struck on a thin planchet.

Very nice!!

Awesome, thanks guys :) I didn't have high hopes for this one. It came from a collection of "errors" where the vast majority were obvious PMD.
