I posted the question about the perfect grading system, and had a number of interesting and good ideas.

I posted this idea but I think it was missed, wanted to see what you think.

What if the US Mint would grade all proof/special/uncirculated etc coins as soon as the mint them

Either some type of computer system or human graders. As soon as they are minted, they grade them.

It seems to me that the actual people minting the coins could be taught a uniform way of grading w/o the usual external and biased pressures.

I'm not sure another government bureaucracy is a good idea. That $14.95 Presidential Proof set would cost $30.00. I wouldn't trust the mint to grade a coin, They still cannot correct the edge lettering on the Presidential dollars.

There would be huge price difference between certain sets. Plus I don't think the mint would want to do this, because they want everyone to believe that all the coins that come out of their facilities are MS70/PF70.

The unholy alliances which are functioning might not want to upset the applecart.

I agree, I think it would be the equivalent of the self slabbers that litter ebay who just slab their own inventory to make you think you are getting something you aren't

This a new 2007 cent from the 2007 sliver proof set you see the spot on it that's one reason we do not want the mint grading

The mint would never get into grading. They sub everything out. Maybe they can get SGS to do it? I am sure they would jump at the chance to be the official grader for the US MINT.

Marriage made in heaven I say.

If the mint started grading coins they would all get MS70 & Pr70's.

So in a sense Jamez is right, might as well hire SGS to grade them.
