I underwater metal detect and found this one in the summer, amazing how the outside's not attacked and it's only the inside and near the rim. A bit shy on the weight too lol.

It is almost like the nickel oxide has protected it from the corrosion!

Wow, that thing looks like the insides were sucked out. Would enjoy seeing an edge-on photo. Wonder if it got hit by a propeller or something.

Thats a cool keeper regardless. It almost makes me think it was was struck on a 1945 planchet the way it dissolved from the inside. 1944 & 45 planchets had raw rims (no chrome over steel). 1946 planchets are 99.9 nickel.
Most interesting PMD I've seen in a long time.

edit
I say almost because it looks like the rims are chromed from here.

the inside is literally hollow and it can make a can crinkle noise pushing gently on both sides at the same time lol.

I also wondered if it was a plated over something else for it to be this way.

Maybe one of the experts will chime their opinion.

kbb, where I found it the water in the summer is about 10 feet plus, they drop it to about a foot in the winter, it's been a swimming spot since about the mid 1830's. I've found lots of nice old coins there and jewelry.

pm you could be right or at least your idea should be checked if the outcome would warrant it.
