Probably many good reasons for this.

I've been holding my tongue, but I think it's because TPG Colonial grading is so pathetic they can't find any to bean. Of course, CAC could have decided they lacked the expertise to do the job appropriately, but I like the first answer better.

In their press release, CAC noted Colonials are a very small portion of their business.

Who really cares is my question. I think it foolish to pay extra for an unsightly sticker anyway.

It's odd that they'd find it a cost they had to cut. Many early copper people also do Colonials and you'd think they would have the talent in-house. I'm reading it as "there wasn't enough business in coins that matter to us."

Superdave I think it is probably a combination of your two comments. The TPG's can't really grade them consistently or to the approval/agreement of the colonial collecting community, and then CAC tries to step in with the same questionable ability and the beans end up just being unsupportable and CAC has realized that.

Colonials are a weak spot for me - is there a true high-end market? As in, high-grade pops large enough to support a sustaining niche?

There are always collectors going for the rare stuff R-6+ and above, and as far as TPG's, who yes, don't know how to grade Colonials, there will be the "finest known" for type. Most Colonial collectors like their coins raw and one can argue as to it's grade..much different grading standards.

My thinking was, if the market was so small that CAC couldn't see ever beaning more than some arbitrary number of big dollar examples ($2500+ maybe), they wouldn't have enough leverage to make the market. And under it all, CAC is about wrenching market dominance back from the TPG's. They plainly state they're all about making the market, which for some has been a thumb up their nose since CAC began.

I think v is saying that the "market" for CAC is small because so many high-end colonials aren't in slabs to begin with.

....which is the best of all reasons to abandon the market. Still don't understand why they don't leave the door open, though, unless they are getting submissions but just not stuff they want to handle themselves.
