That clipped Wheat cent looks like its PMD. To have a legit coin with two straight clips the clips should be perpendicular.

The 1983 cent has a Cud (extra metal). Worth: $.01- $.05
The 1940 cent has PMD (Post Mint Damage) likely inflicted by someone trying to make it worth more. Worth: $0-$5 (depends on if someone wants it as a novelty piece)

With that much metal missing for the "clipped" coin to be real there would HAVE to be some Blakesley Effect.

to CCF!

As stated the 1940-P LWC is PMD (Post Mint Damage), IMHO, and not worth much except as a teaching tool for beginners to show what is not a clip.

However, the 1983-P LMC does have a very nice legitimate Cud on the obverse (notice the weakly struck area on the reverse directly behind the Cud and above the "ATES" in "STATES" which is a pretty good indicator of its legitimacy) and carries a nice premium. One such 1983-P LMC that is nearly identical to yours (actually I'm pretty sure it is the same photo the OP used to start this post) just sold on ebay for $20.06, here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Error-Coin-...em27f2428ff2.

It is a very nice find, congratulations!

(extra metal).

No offence intended but this terminology drives me nuts. There is no "extra metal".....same amount of metal....just flowed differently due to a major die break.

I'm surprised that the Cud went for that much. But I'm delighted so!

Same as above: a nice Cud and PMD on the LWC.

to CCF. The wheat looks PMD worth one cent. The 83 is a Cud. You may want to look here for a match http://cuds-on-coins.com/
