At a general auction about £10-12 at a guess.

Quote: At a general auction General auctions can go both ways. Very cheap if no one is interested. Or Very high if people with no knowledge drive the price up. Interestingly 'chrsmat71' with the very first guess was closest in pure dollar term, taking the varying exchange rate into account 'echizento' would have been closest on the day. $40 plus 15% = $46 - 20% lower than the limit I had set myself, so I am quite happy with the result. Included are: Sestertius from Julia Mamaea - first Sestertius I've got from here Sestertius from Severus Alexander - first non-Greek Imperial from him Sestertius from Lucius Verus - first coin from him Follis from Diocletion - Carthage reverse, new one for me and the mystery piece: Wonder what that beast on the reverse is. Kerberos - missing 2 heads Chimaera - missing goats head Lion - looks like having birds claws Any suggestion welcome.

I'm surprised I came so close! ok, here's one I was going to post anyway. it's another nagas of narwar coin, this one is a 20 ratti or kakini. I already have a 10 ratti or half kakini, but wanted one of these for comparison. Nagas of Narwar Ganapati Naga 4th Century AD Mitchiner ACW 4742+ Obverse: Humped bull standing left. in dotted border Reverse: In Brahmi:'Maharaja Sri Ganendra'. 9 mm 1.9g Provenance: Ex Mctears lot, UK i'll give everyone a couple days to guess. here are some comparison pics with my other coin. the 1/2 kakini and the kakini are the same diameter.. but the 1/2 kakini is only half as thick and weighs half as much (the other coin is 1 g).

The smaller one is nicer, where is the reverse to that one?
As for the price of the thick one, to settle on one number $8 plus potential oncosts.

Absolutely love these coins. I would say $10 dollars for the OP.

Quote: crude imitative Thanks for your post, it triggered me looking at Celtic coinage, before reading Quote: I wonder if it's a celtic imitative coin?
Was already into it, but good idea nonetheless. Here an image (taken from Wildwinds): How is that for a match? The text to it is: CCCBM S71 - Celtic, The Veneti. Imitation of Massalia. ca 3rd Century BC. AR Lightweight Drachm. Nymph head right / MASSA, 'beast'-lion standing right. That coin alone made buying the lot worthwhile.

Nice job tracking it down, Medieval. Definitely the black sheep - uh, make that beast-lion - in that group of Romans.
