Hi out there. Can someone tell me,where to place this coin. I searched NGC and other places but I can't find this coin. To me it looks like Mexico 1/2 Real Z (Zacatecas)1854 OM but I can't find any coins from this mint with that particular year. Ist it possible, that I'm reading the year wrong since it looks like it has been altered. Please advise. Edited by oldsovereign 12/12/2014 05:38 am

My Krause (Centennial Edition) has KM#370.11 for 1/2 Real with Z & Zs mintmark from 1826 to 1869. This includes 1854 OM and 1854/3 OM.

I often use a website called Numista to look up world coins. Here is yours: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces31297.htmlKadang terkagum2 saya, lihat uang kuno dari jauh, bisa sampe ke mana aja. Ini misalnya. Sorry, couldn't resist. It's just not often that I see someone from Indonesia on forums.

Thanks guys,I looked it up.Nomination, mint and year do exist but reverse design is completely different from what I have. Any explanation for that.
As for SlurExe97 : Saya expat yang tinggal di Indonesia dan dapat warisan koleksi koin kuno cukup besar. :-)

First off, welcome.
Looks legitimate to me, certainly is catalogued as noted above. Not a rarity. I'd say it'd grade in the VG range.

I agree with the VG range but still, and sorry for insisting, if I open KM#370.11 a different design appears. How come and are there records about different designs for this particular Coin, year, mint or design?

At Numista I found following Note : overdate variety exists. What possibly could be the original Date and how would it implement the value of the coin? It seems,as further I get in this 'Mexicans' as more confusing it gets....

Here is the NG C database entry for your coin; it copies the price info from the Krause catalogue. Unfortunately, they've got the picture wrong - the picture shown there is actually for a gold 1 escudo, not a silver 1/2 real. But as you can see, the presence of the overdate doesn't make it more or less valuable; the prices for the two varieties of 1854 coin are the same.

Thanks a lot to everybody who helped me out on this,it's a great feeling being in a community who responds to issues and questions. That there is a wrong picture in NGC is to say the least 'unfortunate' since worldwide people relay on the data on this site. From my side,I still have a lot of different coins I can't figure out, where they come from,in short : more to come :-) Once again, thank you all
