I am 99% sure I just purchased one of these from my shop's bid board this evening. I know that it is a Top 50 Peace VAM and VAMworld has it listed at R-6 rarity. Heritage only had two in their archives, both MS-63s, and the most recent in July went for stupid money. The one I will be picking up Saturday is high AU and I was wondering what pop reports were for AU grades and how much of a premium does being a Top 50 add? From what I could tell, this is the only Peace $1 VAM with a pitted reverse, correct?

I am not really into VAMs or Peace dollars for that matter, but I was doing my weekly perusal of the bid board and I noticed a Peace $1 with something strange on the reverse. I looked a little closer and it seemed similar to some of the pitted Morgans that I have seen posted here. I went to http://www.vamworld.com/1923-S+VAM-1C for a description and matched it up to the coin. I saw that it was a Top 50 coin so I knew I had to try and cherrypick it. I bid on it and won it easily as everyone else thought it was just an ordinary AU Peace $1

I just looked this one up in the Cherrypicker's Guide. They list an AU value at 50 dollars, but the book may be a year or two old now, maybe value is higher. They do mention it is the most important pitted reverse in the Peace series, and also mention its listing in the top 50 Peace varieties.

not sure why if this is "the most important pitted reverse" of the Peace dollar series nobody has a picture of one on VAMworld, could be the R6 rating but I have seen a few R7 Morgans with pictures but there are allot more Morgan VAMsters than they are Peace dollar VAMsters. I did some searching and I found this picture of a VAM-1C http://www.selectrarities.com/conte...2070768.html
