Hey US Modren sub forum, how she going? I started reading about Franklin and he is a stud! I want to put together a set of Franklin halves but not a collectopr set, a bullion/collector set. Basically can I buy Franklins as junk or do they all have crazy premiums? I hear about Kennedy's and dollars being used as bullion but not so much Franklins. I might some time in the new year try to make it down to an Ameircan collector shop or just try on here to get a date/mint set as scrap. SInce I want to get away from my generic bullion bars would people be interested in trading junk for pure anywhere. I want to convert my generic silver into a junk Franklin set is what I am saying. Any ideas?

Common Franklin halves can be purchased in circulated condition as junk silver. Even BU Franklins do not go for a big premium over melt value.

Thanks Jim, so $130 for a rollish? How much would you look to pay at a LCS for singles? I don't have access to any LCS that deal with American junk so to make it worth it worth wile for a forum member what would I be looking at trading or paying? I just hate all my generic silver art rounds, ugh!

complete sets of circulated Franklin's sell on ebay in the $300 + range. It is not a hard set to put together as there aren't any expensive key coins in the series.....unless you decide to put together a set with the Proof coins. Some of those early ones sell for $200 + and $300 + but just the regular set, very easy to do.

Provident has these for $14.69 for 2 of them. Give them a call regarding shipping, since they are a large supplier I would think they can ship worldwide. Or use their price as leverage to purchase from a LCS.

My nearby shop has Franklins currently at $6.50 each (or about $228 for the set). Most will not be AU quality but they are available in nice shape on occasion. Getting them across the border is a little tougher. I was able to buy quite a bit of Canadian coins on ebay a couple years ago, but the recent increases in shipping costs have kept me from bidding on coins from Canadian sellers. Only a great bargain in buying can even out the shipping costs. Also, delivery takes 3-4 weeks from Canada to me (10 miles over the border). I don't know if mail going to Canada from the U.S. is the same (slow).

You will pay a small premium on 1955-P and 1953-P, otherwise most others can be had from the junk silver boxes. A Franklin set can be an inexpensive, yet fun set to put together. If you put an extra blank half dollar page into the Franklin dansco album you can also fit 1964-1970 Kennedy halves into it. I just finished a Dansco set of halves from 1891-1970 and oddly I am fussing more over the Franklins than the Walkers or Barbers...lol.

I think you can expect to pay 6.50-8 dollars per half, that's roughly junk pricing.

Are you looking for a complete set of every year and mint mark as junk? Or just a pile of random Franklin halves? Keep in mind that these are basically 2/5 ounce rounds when bought as junk silver, so don't be surprised to pay a couple bucks each over spot as a premium, just like with 1/4 ounce rounds. You'll be paying a lot more premium per ounce, vs the generic 1 oz or larger rounds. I would expect to pay $7.50-8 each at minimum unless you buy a large lot. Also, I might evaluate what your goals are. In junk silver state, the Franklin halves will not appreciate or hold value more than generic silver because the only value is the silver. Junk silver is junk silver. If you like Franklins and bullion, I might suggest hanging on to your bullion and buying a couple high grade Franklin pieces you can look at with pride. Most years and mints are not very expensive even in high grade.
