i am interested in throwing some bids in here on a couple of silver dollars.

my question is , I suspect most of these dollar coins have been cleaned or polished..but I wrote the seller and he assures me he does not clean or polish any of his coins. what do you all think here..

they dont look like they have been cleaned, however they cannot be a mint state because of all the heavy marks!

I don't think any of those are MS, in fact many are EF at best. I don't understand how they can all have the same soft reflective appearance so hopefully someone knowledgeable will say what it is. They all look plated or coated in reflective paint or something.

Doesn't it seem unusual that a dealer would have so many different Silver Dollars that all look the same including the circulated ones?
I know that something has been done to the 35, 36, & 38 dollars
because unplated dies where used those years and they should have more of a matte finish. All these coins have been dipped or polished.
I would not bid on any of them.

I'm not the best when it comes to foreign currency but its just a guess that all the coins have a "polished" look because they where all photographed the same way and its the lighting that is giving that effect. Also someone correct me if I'm wrong but a coin is MS until it shows signs of wear then it is AU. The amount and severity of bag marks wont prevent them from being MS it will only make the coin less desirable or possibly classify it as damaged.

You are right Neo134x.
Bag marks alone would not make a MS coin become an AU. There has to be sign of wear for it to be graded AU or less.

The ones I looked at seemed to have been cleaned but I agree the lighting is partially to blame for the shine.

I have purchased a coin in the past from this seller and sent it back same day it arrived because of the obvious polished cleaning done on it after a local coin dealer confirmed my suspicions. Of course I was blocked from his site after that not that I would but from him again just tested it out. Thanks to CCF we have a resource to check on these.
