In 1908 a large 8 or small 8 variety was available, is it possible to have a large 8 over small 8?

The large 8 should have a bow and small 8 should have a cross/bow. This coin appears to have large 8 with doubling then a cross over bow, a mix of the varieties.

monitoring... this is an interesting one.

I'm definitely no expert here, but interested and learning.

This isn't a Newfoundland but rather a plain Canadian silver five cent, correct? The Newfoundland says "NEWFOUNDLAND" on it.

From the quick survey I did of other large and small 8s, it looks to me like a lot of the large 8s show doubling.

But this is an interesting one! And that is a BEAUTIFUL coin. : )

IMO, your coin is a small date
Have never heard (or forgotten? old age) a 8/8 in this date. does not mean that IT DOES NOT EXIST.

Waiting for nickelsguy to comment on this... the 1908 strikes were a pet project of his...

I would call it 8 over 8 and your right just because nobody has seen one or remembers one. Does not mean it's not out there very nice coin.
