I made a stupid mistake while bidding last night and just lost this auction. I was on the fence if it was an error or not, but figured I would take my chances.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/30142673543....m1435.l2648

Looks like a planchet flaw on the reverse approx 5 o'clock and Struck Through Grease on the bottom of the obverse. The rest may be other errors? Flip strike out of collar or PMD? Hmmmm

Even though I did not win, I would like to have some idea with what happened to this coin...

Undoubtedly post mint damage... you dodged a bullet there...

Thanks, SPP. I believe I can see now how many ways it was tortured. The DA in CANADA had me thinking but I believe now that it is a gouge that left some of the letters. The reverse looks like a hammer job with another coin from the partial "N" that I see.

I wouldn't have lost any sleep over $10 and I still would have enjoyed dissecting it, real or not. Part of the learning process too..

Funny timing because I just left a coin store where they had some 30 or so error coins for me to look at in a binder. Upon further examination, 14 were legitimate errors (clips, planchet flaws, off center strike, major die break), 3 require further examination, and the rest are not legitimate errors. so about half were not errors!!

Still fun to go through the process with each one and show the clerk why these ones are not errors. There were acid pennies, salt water coins, fake clips, a toonie with a flipped core, and even a couple with just dirt on them!!

BTW I bought the 14 legits for $100.

Robmck1967: I like taking chances on coins, a lot of times, it will work out, especially on lots.

VancouverIslandCoinKid: Always on the lookout for clips for you!
