Key "Details" coins have a dedicated following, they are not for everyone, since your auction was/is longer than the normal one week, I am not surprised on the lack of bidding this early. Once word gets out it may stimulate more interest. You could even increase your exposure by using some of the selling tools at GC to highlight your "find", it is not free, but then again how much did you pay for this coin? (sarcasm)

It's all gravy, even if bidding stopped today.

Dr T....

Look for the auction to be relatively quiet until a couple of days before it closes. You will receive most of the action towards the end of the game.

The serious players will not jump into the game until a few hours/minutes before it closes. They like being discrete as much as possible and don't like tipping their hands. The snipers will show up at the last minute, too.

This coin is what it is and stands on its own merit. Somebody will pony up a good price. The 4100$ it is at now ain't gonna happen.

Like I said earlier I think that an investor/coin doctor might jump on this coin if he thinks he can mitigate the scratch and get the coin in a holder that says something else besides "damaged". There are people out there in coinland that know exactly what this coin is worth now, if it can be fixed and what it would be worth if it was fixed. If they think they can make money they will buy it. That is a fact.

Realistically, I think your coin is worth somewhere between 6K and 8K$ Right now. I hope it surprises me and does much better than that. I hope it brings at least the 7200$ that the local dealer offered you.

Patiently waiting to let the show begin! I have a front row seat, my popcorn in the micro and a six pack chilling down in the fridge! Let the fun begin!

I have never implemented this idea before simply because I was never clear as to the rules and adhered-to standards presented by CCF on this subject.

If it is permitted, would not DrTones expect significantly more 'ching ching' if he played into the likely inherent detailed nature of any collector of top numismatic rarities?

If, for instance, I wanted place a bid on this coin, the availability and usefulness of the multiple applicable commentaries found in this thread in and of itself would prove invaluable as a supplementary resource for any potential buyer to ingest for this item.

It obviously goes without saying that the greater the association and exposure one could generate toward the history and makeup ‘any' high dollar item, the more rapidly quality bids would begin to coalesce.

This is simply because now more potential buyers would start to experience those ‘warm and fuzzies' leading to the further breakdown of the ‘beware wall' that always rears its ugly head toward the end of any high dollar sales event or auction in this case etc.

Seasoned buyers always do their homework and this thread would be the best and most applicable tutor...

Therefore, for the benefit of all interested and unsure readers, I would like to find out if CCF members are allowed to place an associated CCF URL on their own auction page for any coin in question without violating CCF guidelines, either stated or implied?

Just to be clear, the $7200 offer also came with a $1000 "finders fee" essentially netting me $6200. It's funny I can't seem to find any in the 9-10k range. Seems to stop at 8k and pick back up at 11k

oih82w8 gave sound advice, DrTones.
I, too, am chomping at the bit. But by its nature any 1901-S Quarter will be subject to much study and,
in the final days, entice or not the serious bidders. Perhaps this was to be expected.
Still, it is frustrating for those of us who are following this epic tale.
And you, dear Dr., must be chomping your fingernails to the nub.

It's all gravy...it's all gravy...it's all gravy.
Easy to say...I would not want to be in your shoes.

I would love to be in his position right now... Wish I had a 1901 S Barber quarter up for auction...

Finder's fees are typically 10% and paid by the buyer of the coin to the person who referred the owner of the coin for sale to him for purchase not the actual owner of the coin.

4000 page views and 16 people watching the coin is a pretty good indicator that there may be some waiting till the last hour of the last day to jump into the pool.

Here is another 1901-S Quarter being offered by CG:

http://www.greatcollections.com/Coi...r-PCGS-AG-03

I wonder if this example will attract a buyer.

oih82w8, I was wondering if so many views were significant.
I agree with your assessment that the potential buyers are waiting until the end
to tip their hand.

Ok, maybe "finders fee" wasn't the proper term but either way the coin shop owner wanted $1000 of the sale for hooking up the sale.

Curiosity more than anything I suppose, but I would not totally discount it, quite a few collectors know of its importance as a key date.
