hi all,
been awhile since my last post, but found this in pocket change.
my question is: does the area look like explosion and then has white milky substance indicate it is more zinc then copper. I saw that explained on other post. I know from research that zinc became main Ingredient metal in 1982 and shows zinc rot.

take a look and let me know.

tanks,

The area in question is a contact mark on your coin. The 1980 cents had the copper planchets. So zinc wasn't even possible until 1982 when there are copper or zinc planchets used that year. 1983 forward are what I call "Zincolns".

Not zinc rot. That's the copper reacting with the air creating verdigris.

Best way to tell is to weight it. The weights are different from copper to zinc. But just by seeing the color, my money is on copper planchet.

It's for sure a copper planchet from my point of view. Way to stay optimistic though.
