Is this genuine? Price is very cheap even in this condition. 2015 Coin yearbook states £225 in F.

"LIMA" is very wonky.

I would love one of these and at this price am very tempted. but as a complete novice when it comes to older silver such as this, I would appreciate some advice.

I think it IS genuine, but despite the condition the damage prevents it from being a valuable coin. For U.S.$32, I would buy it, but not much more. What would stop me from buying it in this case is the shipping costs, which to my way of thinking adds to the purchase price.

On the British market this piece would not be valued at much above the bullion value. I am just a little more sympathetic.

is it real?I have not seen enough of them to say with any certainty.

Things that bother me about it

1. the shipping is out of bounds expensive. No logical reason that priority mail should be that high. The smallest flat rate envelope thing would handle that.

2. Some of the letters, including LIMA look just a little off.

3. The surface looks like it was at the very least dipped to death.

4. Even without the damage there is no way that would grade XF in the Brit system. Even in the US system it would struggle to make VF30. (and I think it is closer to high end fine)

5. an XF would be worth north of $1100, would you put it at $.99 starting? Even if you netted it at VG it still is over $100.

So either it is the deal of the month or the guy knows there is something wrong.

Just my opinion, but what do I know?

Even though it's 'guaranteed authentic', I believe the damage is there to give credence to the low price, and the shipping cost is the real profit. Making good on the 'guarantee' will not refund shipping costs. I've had a lot of coins shipped from the UK for 5 or 6 Pounds, more than that is gouging. There is no insured post outside of the UK, so that's not the reason.

I'm certainly no expert on 18th Century crowns, but between low-resolution scans in off colors, usurious shipping costs, and lack of detail on the coin tells me to avoid it. I'll save my pennies for a better specimen down the road.
