I received a Visa gift card ($25). I have never had one before and wondered if it could be used on ebay. So far I have only used PayPal for purchases. Could this card work?

Yes, any Visa card is usable as a payment option as long as Visa card's are accepted. Since Paypal is accepted, the Visa card can be used although, that would require the full purchase price to be covered by the $25.

So could a $30 purchase be done with the $25 Visa gift card and the other $5 on PayPal via my chequing account?

I to received a visa gift card and will try using it to purchase a coin off ebay this weekend. I think though your purchase punman will have to be entirely done on the gift card.
