I'm thinking in the 80's(corrected by Silver Don, it was the 70's) the Royal Bank offered these to clients for their pennies, about 40 of them were in a bulk buy of pennies last year. Who wants them, they're not my colour lol. What ever were they thinking to make them PINK lol. Cheers. Edited by M_d_in_guy 12/19/2014 10:07 pm

Mid to Late 70's. Used to play penny poker and used those.

I had one of these from a penny box and it was difficult to open, and when I did I ended up spilling the pennies everywhere. I prefer paper rolls.

I think I may have a couple lying around - blue maybe, I don't remember. They're kinda cool.

tks Silver don, that's right as I recall rollin a bunch up for my folks to cash in.
Slurexe, if you notice there are some clam shell design ones in the mix, I think what you said happened often so they were re-designed from the original C-shape.

Before my time, never seen one. Are you looking to sell a couple off? I am a huge small cent fan.

Here is mine - I moved the pennies into a paper roll. I wonder, of all colours why did it have to be pink? At least it's not neon, which would be worse.

I use to go to the Royal Bank for free Penny Pinchers back in the mid to late seventies.

I'm thinking that it was due to most tellers back in the day were female, perhaps that had a huge impact on the decision, It's mostly still female today with the odd male telling but not a very high percentage of male's. My daughter just received a nice promotion at her bank last month from being a teller and now she is an investment advisor.

I got a whole bunch of the Darryl and my other brother Darryl stuff thrown at me growing up. I would only watch the show if my Grandfather was watching it as we only had one TV in the house. How times have changed. I never had an account with Royal Bank and it was a hit miss when trying to collect the penny pinchers. They had a different colour for each denomination.

that's cool and ty for the chuckle, brought me back to a few episodes that were good. That's right different colours, I wonder if there's many still out there?

I have about 100 of these in all the colours/denominations and still use them for sorting my change. Blue/quarters, yellow/dimes, white/nickels, pink/pennies....now I feel old.

I was born in the 80's. My grandmother had a whole bunch of different colours. I currently have one blue, one yellow and maybe 2 whites... Interesting to know the history on them. Thanks :)
