Hi Jason - a little too blurry for me to see anything definitive. In one picture, it looks like maybe some MD. But in the interest of getting this right, could you take a few more shots, perhaps backing out just a bit and try to focus on the field rather than the device?

I'm just seeing a normal coin. What do you see as doubled?

Hi Jason - are you able to steady your hand by resting on an object at the desired focal length? This will steady your shot and take some of the blurring out of the pictures. You might want to diffuse the lighting using Coops suggested diffuser: white plastic bag from the grocer.

Looing like a normal coin as Coop is suggesting (our resident expert). Perhaps a final picture of the subject area will remove all doubt?

The AMERICA is suffering from a partial grease blockage of the devices. This happens a lot on the "STATES" area on the Memorial cents. Just a little grease gets into the die, then the tops of the devices are not formed. This makes the devices look wider, when they are not. The devices are angled to keep from sticking into the dies and release easier after the strike.

Note on this example the tappered device illustration? Then grease into the die area (Not enough to fill and block out a device) you can see how the device appears wider, but it is not hub doubling. Hub doubling increases the size of the device:

It has taken me years to figure it all out, but I'm still learning as well. I try to share everything I know, so everyone won't have to work as hard as I did to scratch the surface. When I was learning I received the yes and no answers, but not the why's. I'm sharing the whys to help the community to grow quicker. Some that have started a year ago and already correct most of the time. So hang on, it going to be an interesting ride!
