This one is a stunner in an NGC holder, frosted, nice pastels, and a teeny bit of carbon (but not too scary)

What's the grade and how much did you pay for it? Also, did you buy it online (ie: ebay....) or from the dealers.

I know that 3cent pieces are hard to find, especially in such high grade.

Congrat....

I did buy it on ebay and from the lousy picture you see below. I probably would never do such a thing again, but I took a chance and I got it for a real bargain. I got it a couple of years ago before the prices started jumping up. I think the coin could get into a Cameo holder today.

Very nice, love the color. Now you could sell it on ebay as MONSTER TONE LQQK!!111 and gain 150% of top of it's regular value, lol. How many of the 3CN do you have Prethen? Are we going to hear for the next hundred year of Prethen hoards popping up all over the country?

Awesome as usual! So is that the one that started the 1878 proof type set?

Amazon...I had to laugh out loud about the "Prethen Hoard" idea. Trust me. There are other collectors out there that have much, much, much more than I have. I just don't mind sharing!

Ken...I have an 1870 Proof set and this is the only 1878 Proof Type I own. I don't think I could convince my wife that I should go after another Proof Set.

Ya, I am having some difficulty convincing my wife I need a 19th century Proof Type set, myself.

I was hoping you could share, how did you get your wife to go along with it...I have tried the "Look Honey, how nice Prethen's set looks, it sure would be nice to have one, don't you think?" She keeps mumbling something about a convertible everytime I bring it up.

Great coin! As my avatar denotes, I love 3CN and have to admit a bit of jealousy when I see such nice examples. It's all good though, someday I hope to complete my set someday.
