I recently bought some 2.5 x 2.5" cardboard flips. I just wasn't happy with the way 2x2 flips held my dollar coins. They were just a bit too tight around the edges. Sometimes they'd bust open, and sometimes they just wouldn't close all the way leaving the rim of the coin exposed. I also got some 2.5" binder pages, but when they arrived, I realized that they seller didn't say they were pvc free. They had a strong plastic smell, and a wet look making me believe they contained pvc and were unsuitable for my coins. So now I have some more pages on the way that are guaranteed to be pvc free. The 2.5" flips look strange to me after using 2x2s all the time. I have to use extra staples to get all the edges closed, but they hold the coins very well. The nice thing is that they will hold silver rounds or eagles just fine too. The last pic is a 1 oz Zombucks "Feast Dollar". Edited by scottk 12/21/2014 7:55 pm

I store my silver dollars in albums, only got four. My Ike dollars are in 2x2's. I can't stand 2.5 just like I can't stand the smaller ones. I agree that Ike's are hard to fit in them. I have tore a few stapling them

I believe album pages for 2.5 x 2.5's are available. I still persist with 2x2's but be careful: the rims of silver dollars ARE still sensitive to impact damage, resulting in nicks and bumps.
Square clear acetate sheet inserts each side of the coin, inside 2.5 x 2.5's would help protect the rims. Definitely helpful with MS+ silver dollars.

I also upgraded from 2x2 to 2.5x2.5 for silver dollars and other similar sized rounds and crowns. The Canadian 36mm dollars are the largest I like to put in 2x2 and even then I worry I'm going to munch an edge with the stapler.
Also, a 2x2 page holds 20 coins and that is just too much weight for the binder holes with coins weighing about an ounce. The larger coin holders means only 60% as many coins per page which is easier on them.
On the other end of the spectrum, I'd probably go 1.5x1.5 for my dimes and pennies if I had it to do over again. 30 small coins per page vs 20.

Most of my large dollars are in Dansco albums. I have no problem keeping the miscellaneous ones in standard 2x2 holders. I admit that I have ruined several holders from trying to get the two halves aligned and the staples just right.

Likewise, I have moved over to the crown size holders for my dollar and similar sized coins. I got tired of playing the tap the holder and staple game with the 2x2's. Plus once you got a coin in the holder, there was no room to write. As a side note I haven't been using folders for my coins for a while (couldn't keep up with the storage space needed), so that wasn't a problem for me. They make the larger red coin boxes for the crown size so I use those too.

Quote: In silver dollar tubes in my safe. WOW and I thought I was the only one that did that. Not in a safe though, just on a shelf in a bookcase. scottk: do you own a staple store? I think you went overboard with those staples.

Carl, yes my other hobby is now collecting staples.
Actually I guess that is just my paranoia of something happening to my coins. I'd rather they look a little funny and be safe than have them look nice and be exposed on the sides.

I know for most this won't be the way they'd go but I have 'all' my coins in either PCGS, NGC or World Premier Coin slabs. I don't have a space issue with this and I find it easy to organize in a Hamilton printing press cabinet I was able to purchase. It's a 20 drawer cabinet and the slabs lay horizontally and flat in two rows. I can fit 90 coins per drawer. with all the coins in slabs. So that amounts to 1800 coins I can store in the cabinet.
I find the slabs easier to grab a hold of and look at. Just what works for me.
