Was looking at Numismedia's price guide and noticed that a lot of MS gold $1 coins in low to mid MS grades have seen substantial drops in price this year. Does anyone know the reason for this? A lot of years are down 30+ percent.

Interesting... It may be because the demand just isn't there.

From what I've experienced, I hear lots of folks talking about $3, $2.5, etc. but $1 just don't seem to surface as much. Personally, I can't find myself attracted to smaller coins, like $1 gold coins or dimes.

I haven't been following the $1 gold too much. I have looked at some of the common date indian $2.50 in about MS-62 to 64 since I may consider getting one. The auction prices on a lot of those have softened in recent years. I feel dropping gold prices may have something to do with it. The bullion value may not be a significant portion of the coin's value but some people might be more hesitant to purchase anything gold when most of the headlines have been falling prices.
