This proof 1950 Franklin half has been graded by PCGS. What do you think of the coin and how would you grade it?

Wow, that is really nice! I would grade it PR-67 but I'll guess PCGS gave it a 66. I can't tell if it warrants a CAM designation from the photos, however.

The thing you can't tell from photos like these is how many hairlines might be present, so you're really just guessing at what grade it earned. Highest graded have been PR67+ (and only three of those, two of which were deemed cameo).

I will let people comment for a day and then reveal the grade.

Tough one to grade from. I'll guess PR-65 CAM. Very nice!

Well, it's near impossible to grade from those pics. For all I know it could be graded PR-69 and I wouldn't contest it, the pictures just make the coin look close to perfect. No way to tell if it's designated CAM or DCAM either. To grade, you'd need to get some pics at different angles in natural light. But for the heck of it, I'll throw out a grade: PR-66CAM.

Well, on this coin, either PCGS blew the grade, or all of us did, including me! PCGS gave this a PF 64 Cameo grade. I was thinking PF66 Cameo when I sent it in and was really surprised at the PF 64 grade, especially when comparing it with other coins on PCGS Coinfacts.

There are some hairlines in the Obverse fields visible at higher magnification. The hairlines are from the mint as I removed this coin from the mint packaging. In hand, it is a beautiful coin and way above my other Franklin proof halves, which I would grade about PF-64 (though not Cameo).

What to do......

I agree with PF66 Cameo. I suggest you break it out and send it in again.
