Hello, I came across this wheat last week and it caught my eye because it is a bit smaller than normal...

What-Is-Up-With-This-Coin?-PMD,-Error,-Both?

...one side of it is indented in so it does not have the same width...

...but the face doesn't seem damaged like I would think it would be if it was squashed...

I am not very familiar with errors and PMD so any ideas of what happened to it would be appreciated.

Yeah, I'm thinking it was encased. There are Mint operations that might end up in that "railroad rim" look on the obverse but the beveling at the reverse rim is a dead giveaway. There's nothing at the Mint which can do that.

The sunken center of the edge is also a common feature of a cent removed from an encasement.

Ah, very informative post. I wouldn't have guessed it. The encased Indians that have been popped out look different typically, since they have denticles.

Lots of good info, I'll have to take another look @ the edge of this one that I picked up a few years back.

Huh, I would never have thought of that. How did it shorten the coin?
