I've noticed that a lot of classic coins are minted in proof, but some are so badly toned, etc., I was wondering how do you tell if a coin is a proof? Is there a good resource for this info? I did a quick search, but didn't come up with much. thanks. Ed

There's no real central information store; in the absence of the obvious Proof look you need pickup data for the known Proof die pairs. So it's issue-specific expertise. I know where to find such data for Morgans but nothing else.
