Long-term readers of this forum will recall my 'quest' to complete the Jefferson nickel circulation strike series from rolls ... I began searching for them in February 2008. I have been stuck for what seems like forever needing only two more to complete the set ... it was actually Feb 2010 at 151,600 coins searched that I filled my most recent 'hole' in the set - nearly 5 years ago! Since then I have diligently searched for the final two ... 1938-S and 1943-D to no avail. Finally - today - at 319,600 coins searched ... hooray! 1943-D Jefferson Roll Find - F/VF Readers of my occasional statistical updates on nickel searching will recall that the 1943-D is today the most difficult Jefferson to obtain in circulation. Link below to my 300,000 coin statistical update: https://goccf.com/t/163828I'm now down to 'only' the 1938-S. Hooray. David

That's awesome! I too have pulled a majority of my Jefferson's from circulation. It's a great feeling finding a hole filler!

Nice. Congrats.
I may have an extra 38s I found if you want to trade, but I am guessing you want to do it on your own.
Nice job!!

Congrats on the 43d! I started my quest 10 years ago. I never knew that you could buy more then 5 or so rolls at a time, since the tellers at my bank would try to charge 11 cents a roll for a box. I would go from branch to branch, 5 rolls at a time visiting 7 banks and maybe get 35 rolls the hard way, because if you only asked for a few, they didn't charge the 11 cents. I did this off and on over the years and filled up a book of Jeffersons, except for 3 that I needed. Those were the 1938-s, 1939-d, and 1944-d. I then discovered these CRH forums a couple of weeks and read about how to order boxes from friendly banks for no charge. Since that time, I have now searched 26,800 nickels in the past two weeks, keeping logs. I have found 2 hole fillers. I found the 1938-s and the 1944-d. I only need the 1939-d to complete my quest now. I was so pumped up to find that 1938-s, needless to say. I know that the 1943-d is though, I only have 1 and there are 7 I still need for a second set. That bank that originally tried to charge me 11 cents a roll, is now my dump bank, by the way.
I think I also found a 1961 Full Steps. I will try to post a picture later.

Closing in David!! Glad to hear that you are down to one. I was stuck on three for a long time, but relative to your drought, I can hardly complain. For me, it's the elusive 1939D. But I hold out hope. Since reading your thread earlier this year, it is truly doable with the Jefferson nickels. Just need patience and some optimism. I hope the 1938S finds it's way to you before year's end; that would be a fitting way to wrap up 2014!

What kind of reaction will you have when you flip the 1938 over and see the S?

Congratulations! I bet your hand was shaking when you saw the 43-D. I can't wait to read about your 38-S find in the hopefully not too distant future.

Congrats on the 43-d. it's a tough one but as a Jefferson nickel collector of 50 years , the 38-s will be more of a challenge for you. but hey, you never know. hope your dream nickel comes true. Tony

Congrats on the 43-d. 38-S should be the hardest. I need one to fill my third circulated set.

I found my first and only in October only took me 172,000 coins to find it. Still need the 50D,39s and all of the 38s. I will keep on.
