I think I've heard of these referred to as "woodies" when this type of thing appears in large cents.

I found these two in the same roll while hunting yesterday. "Birds of a feather", ey?"

What's going on with these or any other coin that exhibits such a pattern? I have also seen something similar in Buffalo and Jefferson nickels. Maybe something to do with the copper mix?

There is something wrong in the copper mix that does this. I believe.
