I went through my coins today, looking for 2014s that I pulled out of circulation. Even given that I only kept maybe 1-in-5 at best, there sure weren't very many. 5c......8 10c...2 25c...4 $1....5 (regular) ........1 (Olympic) $2....4 (regular) ........2 Wait for Me Daddy Given that RCM is withdrawing older coins they sure don't seem to be replacing these in any numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if 2014's mintage are even less than 2013's. Edited by lyradnoj 01/02/2015 3:53 pm

The order in which I found the 2014 coins were: Lucky Loon, Dime, Quarter, $2 coin, Loon, Nickel. It took me until Sep. 10/14. I found the Remembrance $2 in November but I had already ordered from the mint. The 50 cent I got through ebay. Were there any other standard issues I missed for 2014? Coin roll hunting yielded a roll of mint Lucky Loons and a roll of quarters. My son brought home a roll of new 2014 dimes from his retail workplace.

I would expect the roll out of tap and go technology on credit cards and cell phones in the last couple of years has reduced the demand for coins as the supply is reduced by the ARP.

I always like to make the trip to mint each year and pick up a roll of each circulation strike for each denomination..
Unfortunately there is a 5% cost for this.... but I see it as a cost for collecting...
I totally agree that mintage numbers will be on the decline... money is becoming electronic, and as banks look to maximize profits and minimize costs.. ordering a lot of coins and encouraging their customers to go "electronic" is in their better interests.

AGCoinAu - I imagine they charge you more than 5% extra for the 50 cent pieces? I thought those were double face value.

I never kept track of which I found first. I was missing a 2013 dime for the longest time until early 2014. I see a fair amount of 2013/2014 loonies and toonies, but other denominations seem to be much less common than other years in the 2000s.

punman: yes.. 50 cent coins rolls cost 2x I believe.. I don't pick up the 50 cent pieces b/c of the premium...
Luckily enough a month ago I picked up 3 rolls of 2012 and 2 rolls of 2013 rolls of 50 cent pieces from my bank for face.
Usually when I go to the mint I pick up a roll of the .5, .10, .25 $1 and $2 standard circ strikes...
Then with the wait for me daddy $2 swap I picked up a couple rolls of them, but there was no premium on those...
After that I have started to do boxes of nickles and soon quarters for CRH'ing ... to get some nice quality current dates and hold on to the U.S. coinage for when I go down south.. free exchange and 20% gain in Money... it's a win win!

I found it fairly easy to get all denominations for 2013/14 except for 50 cent pieces. I am not near a mint but the banks have been pretty good to me. I have mint wrapped rolls for most of 2013 dimes, nickels and quarters, including 4 rolls of the arctic/whale quarters. I have found enough loonies and toonies to put together full rolls of very clean circ . I have most 2014 coinage including 2014 lucky loonies (15) and a couple of rolls of WFMD toonies and 10 loose ones . Now the hunt is on for the 2015 coinage.

i have found lots of each denomination,(except 50c), and most have gone to the bank.
i did notice though that the ARP doesn't seem to be targeting loons and toons as much as the rest. lots more pre 2012 $1 and $2s then other denominations out there.

I haven't found the 50c and toonie for both 2013 and 2014.
wazzapening, I'm in downtown Toronto and over half of my loonies and toonies in my change are plated. I have only received one non-plated quarter once in my change since the summer, and a nickel nickel and a cupronickel nickel when I went to Don Mills at different times. It seems like the ARP is hitting hardest in crowded, busy places. But I find more American change here than I do in Mississauga.

maybe they are targeting specific areas for specific coins? I had read one person on here in the maritimes saying they haadnt seen any difference after ARP, and they were still findings oodles of pre steel coins.

I think the chances of coming across a 2014 50c in circulation are just a little bit better than the odds of finding a 2014 1c. And I still think 1996 toonies are the most common.

Maybe. They might be targeting crowded places first because there are a lot of people and the faster the RCM can get their nickel and silver coins back, the less time people have to hoard them when they realise the old coins are disappearing. In my purse, all the quarters, dimes, and nickels are plated. 3/5 of the loonies are plated. 1/4 of the toonies are plated. The seemingly lower ratio of plated toonies here is because I have a bias of spending the plated ones first and the nickel ones last, about half of them I receive are 2012s.

i spend my Not plated loons and toons first,(the ones I dont need to complete my set, or bad condition). that way hopefully someone who does need/want one can find it in circulation. the plated ones go to the bank if I dont need them as spending change.
@pennyman, who does it belong to? my best guess is the tax payer that paid for it in the first place? if we could open up that case, I would ask that all the silvers be put back in circulation
