Oh, and the going rate for these is $50, but they are illegal to sell, so they are hard to find.

They are by no means illegal to sell and they range between $50 and $100, actually. :-)

You will have some difficulty listing it on ebay but if you choose the proper wording, your listing will get through.

Your find is worth a lot more than a real one would be!

I would say... take it to ICG! They will authenticate it!

Thank you everyone for the comments. As you can imagine, I was very shocked to find it hidden in my $8-10 in rolled 1940's nickels. By far, the best find while roll searching!

coolfool Congratulations! I know how excited you must be since I also found one from a roll last week. Mine was a 44 no P without the hole in the R. posted it on a different CCF forum and it was confirmed by the members. Sure is nice to have access to all the expertise that CCF provides.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I was wondering if anyone knows what other identifiers to look for if you suspect one without the hole in the R. Also do any of the other Henning dates have a mint mark?

The wrong metal. Also the lack of the Mint mark above the dome on the war years issue. Also the weakness of the design.

There are many threads on the forum related with the Henning nickel ... and the search feature will return them. Following link is a thread I started nearly 5 years ago ... filled with useful diagnostic information. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=53117David

You'd think whoever made them would have made at least quarters, nonetheless, a nice find for you.
