Hello, Just curious if a "Like" functionality is in the cards for the CCF. Replies to topics with "likes" or "+1's" etc. may be beneficial in determining merit of consensus in topic replies. I'm sure this has most likely been brought up at some point, please forgive me if it has. I'm still relatively new.

I once suggested that here a looooong time ago. Then, shortly after my suggestion, I received a box in the mail. When I opened it, a white gloved hand, perhaps belonging to SsuperDdave, reached out and slapped me!! Then, I was handed a folded note.
I opened that note, and it said, "NO"

The thing is, they serve essentially no purpose except ego massaging, and devolve into popularity contests. Every_single_time. And it'll inevitably work out that "likes" are just a different postcount measure. If we'd done this from the start, jbuck and I would have the most Likes simply because of our postcounts and the chances of someone randomly seeing value in just about any post. It'd have nothing to do with the relative quality of our posts. You ever upvote someone for a post only to find out later they were wrong? I have. And if you get to a thousand posts with no Likes, we're probably putting you out the airlock anyway because you don't contribute enough content.

Actually, this is in the pipeline. It may be a while though, it's not high on the list.

I'm pretty sure we discussed it Dave. It's going to be a "Thanks" mod technically, but same idea. No counts will be attached to members, just the post.

Hehehehehe. Me, remember? I'm not dead-set against the idea, but it's difficult to implement as an accurate reflection of reality.

Thanks, I'd been wondering for awhile if it was something that had been brought up. Quote: The thing is, they serve essentially no purpose I find it to be useful not necessarily because I even "like" a post, but to convey that I've read it without actually replying. (Yup..I'm lazy) I've moderated a few online gaming forums in the past (before I had a kid & a lot more free time). In my experience it often reduces replies without any relevant substance, as someone may post 2-3 word replies just to let the OP know they've read it. So when someone does have a relevant response, you don't have to read 3-4 pages of "Quote of original post" followed by "Lol" etc. Just an observation.

@Bobby, does this mean that the forum is a constant work in progress? EDIT: I "Like" the idea of a "like" button so I can identify posts I "like"so others can see that I "like" them and maybe decide that they "like" them themselves.

In a perfect world a 'like' option would be great if used sparingly for only the best and most useful posts but it really depends on the membership to not abuse it. I've seen some forums where every post is 'liked' by a half dozen members no matter if it added anything constructive to the conversation or not. Just my Two Cents .......
