I recently picked this coin up, and noticed that on the eagle's breast there is a rather prominent die chip. I did some searching on VAM World, but couldn't find a similar attribute.

Any idea what VAM this is?

As I mentioned in your other thread, this could be the chip seen on the VAM-28 (and two others) reverse. The chip is a bit more LDS in appearance.

It's there. Just not as prominent as the plate coin. I can see it best in the low areas between feathers.

Good eye Dave, I agree it's easiest to see in between the feathers.

Process of elimination leaves me at 28. VAM20 is an over-polished obverse die and VAM16 has a unique die marker on the letter U in PLURIBUS. I think bag contact obliterated the forehead die scratch of the VAM28 obverse.

And now anyone who looks up any of the three VAMs will have a Google result to this thread to learn how to tell them apart. Thanks, guys!

It's an illustration of what we're talking about in the "Internet vs. Numismatics" thread. This is one more little addition to what will ultimately be the equalizer in the war against counterfeiting.
