Mint marks were added to working dies by hand until 1989, so it could have been almost anywhere.

Ok thank you Fuzzy. It is the only one I have come across that was actually touching the date, so I wasn't sure. Good to know.

to a collector of that type error, the mint mark touching the date might have a premium. But you would have to find the right collector.

I'd hold onto it, even if it's not worth any premium, it's still a education piece to show how varied mint marks can come

So, it's not an error, but in some collectors eyes it is.. ok. Each to his own. L thank you. I will set it aside, just in case I come across someone interested in this type. Thank You

I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult, if given the opportunity, I'd probably pay a few bucks to own an example like this just for comversation

As an inexpensive specialty collection look for more 1954-S Lincolns with the MM in different locations.
With over 96 million struck there should be quite a variety of locations.
From what I could find the average life of a Lincoln was about 1 million.
Even with some in apparently the same position there still should be quite a variety.

You could put together an interesting show-and-tell collection.

When a MM is touching the date, it is so misplaced that it commands a slight premium to the right collector. maybe fifty cents or so.
