I finished my Franklin half album last week when I came across the last coin I needed on ebay. It was a 1957 blast white UNC for $10 which I felt was a good price since the last 2 local shows I went to if any of the dealers had a 1957 it was EF at best and they all wanted $15+. About 40% of the coins came from roll hunting finds, another 30 - 40% came from trading my roll hunting finds with another member of the local coin club who is a junk silver stacker, and the remaining I had to buy. Since I had the camera out for my nickel set I thought I would post this one up as well. Edited by jack jeckel 01/04/2015 11:21 pm

Congrats! I'm considering starting a Franklin half book, do you know what the key dates are?

If you are doing a circulated set from junk silver bins then I think the 1955 would be the one you wouldn't find in there. If I were building a set (vs. finding mine in rolls and traded for junk silver for the others) I would wait for an UNC example to come along. The seller I got my 1957 last coin needed had a full run of 1957 to 1963 and half of them didn't get the opening bid of $10 so if you have the patience you can get some nice coins for the price of worn coins. Since silver is down I would say don;t wait to long to get started before even the prices of the low grade ones go back up.

Jack, I think that's solid advice. I think $10 for an UNC franklin is a fair price. I only have 2 in my young set but they're both UNC and I can't wait to start working on it more.
Also, congrats on your finds/completion of this set. Looks great!

Argh! This reminds me that I need to locate my Franklin album. I have misplaced it and I can't remember where I stashed it away. Quite frustrating! On the other hand, that's a nice looking set. Congrats!

I picked up a '44 walker about 2 weeks ago & can't find it for the life of me. Tore the house up looking for it. I think my 2 year old hid it somewhere...rotten feeling. I can't imagine that feeling multiplied by an album. On a lighter note, congrats on your set Jack! I need shades to look at your '48

I will more than likely start this set this year. I really need to finish the ones I have open right now though first (IHCs, Canadian cents, Shield/Liberty/Buffalo nickels, Washington quarters, modern commem. halves, silver State Quarters, proof Presidential dollars, and others that aren't coming to mind right now) but this one looks like a very manageable and fun set to complete. It definitely seems like it helps that the series had such a short run...well, at lease compared to EVERYTHING we have nowadays. Nice looking set!

I can't imagine that feeling multiplied by an album. It kept nagging me to no end, it was driving me insane. I finally found it last night stuck in a book shelf. I don't recall ever putting it there, but all that matters is I found it.
