If you're going to be there this weekend go to the NY International Numismatic Convention Jan 8 - 11 at the Waldorf Astoria. 116 dealers in world and ancient coins.

Vitajte!

With the price of silver so low dealers do not always bring all of their coins to a show. You might therefore ask a dealer, "Do you have a store?

Banknotes are easier to transport.

At a large show dealers will bring their most easily salable coins and notes.

And it will be helpful if you can be more specific in your wants. This way you can narrow your search.

I too am planning on attending the NYINC show this weekend. This will be my 2nd show. Was wondering do the dealers take credit cards or they just deal in cash?

From what I've heard most dealers like to stick to cash since credit card processing fees will eat into their profits. There are usually ATMs nearby or in most convention centers.

I think Stacks has a retail shop. They seem to deal in mostly U.S coins so I am not sure how much they have in world coins but it can't hurt to take a look if you have the time.

Last time I was @ Stacks (2 years ago) their retail presence was minimal. They had a few pieces, maybe 20 or 30. I asked the staff who indicated that the younger staff was trying to bring back the retail effort. This was just before the 57th Street Collection, so it could have changed - I would call first.

The problem with having a B&M shop in NYC is the sky high real estate and rental costs. If you are well established and selling high end material you aren't likely to be able to make enough profit to cover the rent. A 1BR apartment rents for $1500 - $3000 a month. A business store front will go for a lot more.

I agree with you Conder, but NYC has 4 more boroughs than just Manhattan. Retail rents in Manhattan south of 110th street are insanely expensive right now, possibly pushing in the $70 to $100 per SF and more in some areas. Outer boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, & Staten Island) are greatly reduced.

I am just starting to get serious about collecting, but have not found any B&M locations in NYC yet, otherwise I would recommend some. Most of my purchases are from the internet.

The Rent I quoted was an average of the other boroughs. Manhattan was well over $3,000. Even using 12coins estimate of $70 per square foot, if you have a 15 X 20 store front and you have a 20% average markup on your coins you would have to sell $105,000 worth of coins a month just to pay the rent.
