I have always been curious about this topic.
It just popped in my head again because I have the opportunity to purchase this coin for a great price.
Any thoughts?

@bpoc1

Many years ago, it wasn't uncommon for planches to be uneven.
Another words, it was thinner on one side than the other. Then when the coin was struck, it would have good detail on one side but not on the other. Some denominations and years were known for it more than others.

It just so happens that the nickel I'm interested in (1875) is known to have this problem.

Do you think this effects the grade?

Personally, I don't think it should because the coin came from the mint like that.
Rest in Peace

Also a possibility that the dies were not aligned correctly, i.e., parallel to each other.
